Kinda funny to see how many people ***** about things without realizing how it effects them, or trying to come up with some lore about how it's negative in some way.
1st off, macro mining is wrong, against the eula, and yeah. 2ndly, have you ever actually looked at the economic ramifications of eliminating every macro miner out there? were you even around in the days of when a CNR cost about a bil? When battleships meant you were rich?
Look at ice, oh how much fun it is to mine, mining all day. There are over 5k systems in eve, right? Well, lets just imagine, there's only 1 pos in every single system, and we'll use round numbers, and say 5,000 pos's. Because this is a gross underestimation, lets say they are all large pos's.
Liquid Ozone - 82 hours of ice mining with a max mackinaw per tower Heavy Water - 31 hours of ice mining with a max mackinaw per tower Isotopes - 25 hours of ice mining with a max mackinaw per tower
now these numbers are run in high sec using basic ice. now multiplied by 5000...
Liquid Ozone - 410,000 man hours to fuel 5k pos's a month Heavy Water - 155,000 man hours to fuel 5k pos's a month Isotopes - 125,000 man hours to fuel 5k pos's a month
Keep in mind there are only 720 hours in a standard (30 day) month. So this is the equivilent of 570 people mining 23/7 ice, just to keep 5,000 towers running.
Now watch what happens here, you get rid of all the macro miners, somehow making it so it is impossible to macro mine. Fine, you get your wish. What happens next? Well, soon, as in instantly, prices on POS fuel skyrocket. It is now nearly impossible for all but the richest people in all of Eve to run a POS. In turn, research and build slot competition sky rockets, making it harder and harder to build goods. The T2 market disintegrats as prices raise to beyond belief, as it is just too expensive to fuel the POS's to mine the moon minerals. You might say moon minerals will go up in price too, and therefore, pay for itself, but, look a little harder, and you'll see how that will collapse on itself as well just the same.
Now, we have a massive imbalance, as prices on constructed goods are now through the roof, players will by crying out for CCP to do something. Missions still give the same rewards, and so do belt rats, so your income is now instead of being more than it cost to fit your ships or do whatever it was you did, much much less.
Yes, those who would then go mine ice, might make a lot more per block than they do now, if they could find a buyer, but ask yourself a few questions: 1) how many pos's do you think there are running right now in eve? 2) if it takes an average of 2% of the online population to mine enough fuel for only 5k towers, what percentage do you think is mining for the rest of the towers? 3) are not macro miners a necessary evil? cause if the answer to 3 is still no, they need to be eliminated, i have failed to prove the errors of that thinking.
I do not condone the actions of macro miners, but sadly, eve could not function without them.
